Although the Kiwi have insects living in their wonderful environment we supplement this with extra food 3 times per day, every day at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. This is an opportunity to hopefully see both birds together so you can compare the differences between the female and the male. As we try to put the feeding tubes in some of the more"moonlight" spaces it can provide very good viewing. Feeding is also accompanied by a talk by the keeper who will quietly explain about these unique animals and answer your questions while you watch the birds feed.
As this is the birds home where they live as they would in the wild with the least human interaction as possible we cannot predict or guarantee their behaviour but these times usually provide the best viewing opportunities.
Cameras also allow you to observe their behaviour inside the burrows where they can be doing house work, preening, playing, fighting or snoozing.
Allow 1 and a half hours to 2 hours to see everything here at Kiwi North - the Whangarei Museum, Heritage Park and historic buildings, and all the other animals in the Kiwi House area including Flash the Tuatara. You can visit any part of Kiwi North as many times as you want while you are here.
